We spent the better part of seven days at Pleasant Creek Campground. We were in Pleasant Creek Campground from July 1 - 8, 2018.
We passed by the worlds largest covered wagon on our way to Oglesby, IL. A fun stop along the way.
Starved Rock park is about 90 miles outside of Chicago, IL. We spent the day there and walked to Lovers Leap canyon. There was no water flowing over the rocks as no rain had fallen all summer. But of course when we arrived at the campground, it rained five of our seven days. Starved rock is named after an Indian tribe that was unable to climb down from the rock to search for food as they were surrounded by another fighting tribe.
Ottawa, IL is another one of those quaint little towns, with a population around a few thousand. Wonderful murals lined every street corner. Home of the Lincoln and Douglas debate for a senate seat. I was able to read all the plaques I stopped at, well because I am retired and have the time to review.
We went to Hennepin, IL, population 750, for fireworks. But it stormed right after we got there and were unable to watch anything.
We went to St Louis Canyon, an area thick with trees and a super cool waterfall. Since this was the first water fall I have visited, it was cool. We had the opportunity to visit Matthesien state park and see the Matthesien dells. Neat area with walking through the water and watching waterfalls.
Utica, IL had August Hills Winery, were we bought a bottle of wine of course. Little town of maybe 300. All the cool things a small town has to see and offer. Antiques, Two Women and a Cupcake, some of the most delicious cupcakes I have ever eaten.
Pleasant Creek campground is a very quiet place to stay for a day or two. It is in desperate need of level sites, upgraded electrical and WiFi and cell service. Although the shower/restroom facilities were only 2 years old, there were tired and needed updating also. We enjoyed the area, and would maybe stay for a stopover, but nothing more.
We got to wear our matching T-Shirts.
